Andrew Himes at Town Hall Seattle!

Andrew HimesAt Town Hall Seattle on Sunday, May 15 at 5:00 PM, Andrew Himes will speak on the historical and religious roots of Christian fundamentalism in America, illuminated by his family’s story, and the hopeful prospect that a new generation is moving toward a new understanding and engagement with faith in the 21st century.

Rice FamilyHimes is the author of The Sword of the Lord: The Roots of Fundamentalism in an American Family, due for release by Chiara Press on May 15. He is the grandson of John R. Rice, founder of The Sword of the Lord newspaper and the most influential Christian fundamentalist in the 20th century. Rice was mentor and friend to many younger preachers such as Billy Graham and Jerry Falwell.

Sword of the Lord newspaperHimes will be joined on stage by Pastor Pat Wright and the Total Experience Gospel Choir. Himes will host several friends, including Rev. Samuel McKinney (pastor emeritus of Mt. Zion Baptist Church), Rich Lang (pastor of Trinity United Methodist and religion columnist for Real Change), Catherine Foote (minister at University Congregational Church of Christ), and Rev. Alphonso Meadows (pastor of Ebenezer AME Church).
